Appraisal

The appraisal process for a wine or whisky collection can be very important in understanding value for insurance purposes, estate planning, or what may be increasing (or decreasing) in price. Often collectors think of their collection as that’s just my wine collection, but in reality there can be real value and it is important to understand and protect. WineAdvise offers USPAP Certified appraisals for many different reasons, both for wine and whisky collections. We can often appraise based upon an existing inventory, but will come to the location if an inventory or condition inspection is required. Our typical appraisals include;

Retail Replacement Value – This is the most common appraisal when understanding how to protect a collection with insurance and understanding what it would cost to replace.

Fair Market Value – This is typically performed for Estate planning or Divorces to understand the equitable distribution

Marketable Cash Value – This is very similar to fair market value, but gives a more clear picture for what a collector might expect to net when selling wine

WineAdvise creates customized reports depending on the client’s needs that also includes drinking ranges and suggested maturity. See Case Studies for an example of how this has worked. When a client intends to sell a collection, WineAdvise offers a complimentary valuation to help the collector understand what they would expect to net in the event of a sale.
